After releasing 3 Minute Silence, Alexandre Santos—guitarist and founder of the Portuguese heavy rock band, Scar For Life—approached vocalist David Reed Watson (
Kill Ritual, Rage of Angels) to feature on the band’s next album. The pair wrote several songs together but decided that instead of recording with Scar For Life they wanted to release these songs as a standalone project, and D.N.A. was born.

In 2013, D.N.A. released their first EP, Life, with David Reed Watson on vocals, Alexandre Santos on guitars and Alex’s Scar For Life colleague, João Colaço, on drums . Life also featured Neil Fraser (Rage of Angels) on lead guitar, and Mikael Carlsson (Lover Under Cover) on bass. Alex was the main songwriter and rhythm guitarist, with lyrics provided by David Reed Watson.
